News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Hold LG poll on same day - JVP JVP General Secretary Tylvin Silva has urged the government not to hold the Local Government polls on a staggered basis. In a news release issued yesterday, Silva said the reason for the holding of the Local Government polls separately in the North-East is the agreement signed by the UNP with the LTTE. He said holding the election on a staggered basis will incur more undue expenses for the government particularly at a time when the cost of living has skyrocketed. Silva said the government must take steps to hold the Local Government Elections on the same day throughout the country instead of pandering to the wishes of the LTTE. Meanwhile, in another statement, the JVP Media Unit said that suspected UNP goons had attacked a JVP candidate contesting from the Gampaha District for the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha. |
