A young man was ordered to pay Rs. 500 as state costs by the Kandy Magistrate C. V. Rajapakse when he pleaded guilty to indicating a person at an identification parade. A. Rahuman of Akurana was charged with contemp of court by indicating a person standing next to him at an identification parade held on January 29 at the Magistrate's court Kandy. Court Sergeant S. Piyalsiri filed the plaint on the orders of the magistrate. The accused, who was produced in court from remand, pleaded guilty. Attorney-at-Law Aftab Jameel informed court that accused has a weakness on his shoulders which makes him shrug. This was misconceived as an indication to show a person standing next to him. He also told court that accused was below 20 years of age and requested court to impose state costs on him. The Magistrate ordered the accused to pay Rs. 500 as state costs and warned him severely. |
