Over 5,000 Lankans to perform Haj

Over 5,000 Sri Lankan pilgrims are expected to perform Haj this year. The first batch has already left for Mekkah with the officials of the Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Department.

The Chairman of the Central Haj Committee Prince Abdul Majeed Bin Abdul Aziz, Emir of Mekkah has appealed to the national carrier SaudiAir to upgrade its schedules for the transportation of pilgrims from all parts of the world.

The Central Haj Committee also reviewed the Haj plan by the Ministry of Haj which is aimed at developing its supervisory work and its arrangements for this Haj season.

According to this plan, the Ministry's staff will closely monitor the inflow of the pilgrims in the holy sites and their accommodation and departure according to the set flight schedules.

With the implementation of this plan, the Ministry of Haj will coordinate with the Presidency of Civil Aviation and Arab and Islamic Haj Missions in order to enable them to perform Haj rituals with ease, comfort and tranquillity.

According to a circular released by the Central Haj Committee, the Saudi Red Crescent Society (SRCS) will set up 76 emergency medical centres and mobilise 700 emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and 89 physicians in the pilgrimage area.

A special program will be executed for the most crowded Jamarat area with a total of 42 teams of EMTs at six designated treatment locations.

Dr. Mowaffag Al-Bayouk, Director of Emergency Medical Services has claimed that no country in the world has an opportunity to experience such a mass gathering of around two million in the limited time and the designated rituals areas. "Our Haj operation which involves the most crowded areas is a major achievement," he says.
