by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi A program is now under way by the Health, Nutrition and Welfare Ministry to identify social and health issues pertaining to migrant workers in the Middle East and their families. This special program which will be implemented as part of the Ministry's 100 day program, is conducted in collaboration with public health workers and Grama Sevakas in each divisional area, a Ministry spokesman said. According to unconfirmed reports, there are around 100,000 children whose mothers are abroad while in some families both parents have sought foreign employment. " Once identified, action will be taken to provide solutions to children of such families." The program will also pay attention to the problems pertaining to those children who have been made destitute by their parents. A separate form and techniques will be used in this task, the spokesman added. Besides, the Ministry has also taken action to promote " Kola-Kenda " (herbal porridge) among schoolchildren. Basic utensils will be distributed to 100 schools while measures will be taken to set up herbal gardens in 100 schools.
