by Sarath Malalasekera The Criminal Investigation Department conducting investigations into the Udathalawinna massacre has questioned over forty persons including the former Deputy Defence Minister Gen. Anuruddha Ratwatte and recorded their statements. CID, DIG C. L. Ratnayake is directing investigations conducted by Director CID Senior SP Lionel Gunatilleke and assisted by the Deputy Director CID Senior SP Sisira Mendis has forwarded the dossier of the earlier investigations into the massacre to the Attorney General, President's Counsel K. C. Kamalasabeyson. Investigators said that they would forward the statement of Anuruddha Ratwatte to the Attorney General today for further instructions. Ratwatte's statement was recorded for several hours by the CID on Saturday. Former Minister Ratwatte had denied all the allegations levelled against him in connection with the killing of ten Muslim youth in Kandy on the day of the last general elections. The Daily News reliably understands that the Attorney General has entrusted the matter to be handled by the Solicitor General C.R. de Silva. Meanwhile, former Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, President's Counsel Anil Obeyesekera has been summoned to the CID on February 13. 'We have to question Mr. Anil Obeyesekera in connection with how the CPC vehicles were used on election day in Kandy,' a Senior CID officer said. |
