Bangladesh won't renew Chappell contract, seek new coach

DHAKA, Thursday (Reuters) Bangladesh will not renew coach Trevor Chappell's contract when it ends next month, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said on Thursday.

"We are not going to renew his (Chappell) contract. We are looking for a new coach preferably from South Asia," said BCB president Ali Asghar Loby.

Former all-rounder Chappell was appointed national team coach in March last year on a two year contract, renewable after one year.

Bangladesh, beaten comprehensively by Pakistan and New Zealand in recent months, have played 11 tests since gaining test status in 2000. They have lost 10 of them, nine of which have come within four days.

Loby described recent performances as "very dismal" and said, "It can't be continued".

"Now we plan to get a coach from India, Pakistan or Sri Lanka who will be familiar with our social behaviour and environment," he said.
