Royal-Ananda clash pich of the matches

by Chris Dhambarage

A fascinating contest is on the card when Royal take on St. Peter's in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter school cricket tournament match at Reid Avenue today.

Both teams had successful outings in their previous matches and will be determined to continue with the good work. Royal have made steady progress in the current season with skipper Ganganath Ratnayake leading from the front. The star all rounder hit a superb 97 against the Anandians last week and will be out for a repeat performance.

The Peterites too are quite confident having piled up over three hundred runs in their previous outing against S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia. The Peterite batting line up has always looked awesome with Gihan de Silva as their leading run scorer. Last week he hammered a trail blazing 164 and will be hoping to continue his excellent form.

Ananda will face an acid test when they meet the unpredictable St. Anthony's outfit on their home grounds at Ananda Mawatha. The Anandians are desperate to pull off a victory after some of their earlier games were spoiled due to bad weather. However the Antonians are capable of causing an upset as they did it last week against the more fancied Nalanda at Katugastota

In addition the Anandians will be at full strength with the return of Sri Lanka youth cap Eshan Abeysinghe. Together with the in form Yohan Wickremage they should form an effective combination in an attempt to put the side in a strong position.

St. Benedict's College face another tough task when they clash with St. Sebastian's College in another fixture at Moratuwa. The Sebastianites suffered a shock first innings defeat at the hands of Isipatana a couple of days ago and will be hoping to produce an improved performance. The Benedictines too suffered a morale shattering nine wicket defeat against Prince of Wales College Moratuwa and they will be under tremendous pressure to come out with a good performance.

The Nalandians should be able to dominate proceedings when they take on Dharmaraja College Kandy in their encounter at Campbell Place. The Nalandians had a successful outing a couple of days ago against the Wesleyites and are determined to make another impact in this game too.

Meanwhile the Wesleyites will be up against Isipatana in another match at Campbell Park. Isipatana will be banking on their two spinners Saranga Perera and Oshadie Nawaragodagedera who have been quite consistent throughout the season.
