Route No. 138 still of strike

by Ranil Wijayapala

The strike launched by private bus operators on route 138 of the High Level Road continued yesterday with no settlement. The operators were not satisfied with the action of a Police officer who allegedly assaulted a driver.

General Manager of the Western Province Transport Authority Harry Jayatunga told the Daily News that the operators were demanding stern action against the Police officer.

The Police officer attached to the Kirulapone Police was transferred to Colombo Harbour Police on the directive of Colombo DIG Bodhi Liyanage but operators wanted him transferred to Batticaloa or any other remote area", he added.

Thousands of commuters were inconvenienced for the third consecutive day of this strike as almost all the private buses plying on the 138 route including Maharagama, Mattegoda, Rukamalgama, Homagama did not operate yesterday morning too.

Private buses plying on the 125 Padukka-Pettah route also joined the protest yesterday in support of the strike launched by the bus operators of the Kottawa-Pettah route.
