MV 'SCI Asha' inducted on ISES service

The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd (SCI) through its local agents, Asha Agencies Ltd inducted the mv. 'SCI Asha' on the India Subcontinent Europe Service (ISES) last week.

The ISES is a joint service operated by ZIM/YML/MISC/EMC/KLINE and SCI and covers the west bound trades along the route - Colombo/Nhavasheva/Port Said/Barcelona/Felixtowe/Rotterdam/Hamburg. The ship 'MV Savannah" was renamed mv. "SCI ASHA" for this purpose in Colombo last week.

Asha Agencies Ltd have represented The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd for the past 41 years (since the birth of SCI on October 2, 1961 with the merging of the Eastern Shipping Corporation and Western Shipping Corporation) and consider it a singular honour to have a vessel plying on one of SCI's foremost container services named after Asha Agencies Ltd.SCI have shown commitment over the years to the Port of Colombo and have enhanced container operations, and now provide quality container services to Europe, USA and Far East in partnership with major lines and also cover the short sea routes in the ISC region.

Expansion plans to encompass other trading routes are presently under evaluation as SCI believes they are now ready to operate container services globally.

The SCI also use Colombo extensively for dry docking and repairs of their diversified fleet, and source bunkers as well as other ancillary services while in Colombo.

Lately, SCI have actively participated in the carriage of oil for the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and have won a recent tender for the supply of a large quantity of crude oil to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.

SCI through Ashas assured the SLPA and SAGT of their continuing commitment to the port of Colombo.

To mark the occasion, commemorative plaques were exchanged between Manik Pereira, Chairman - Asha and Pership Group together with the Master of the mv "SCI Asha" Capt Tsimidopoulos Michail and Chairman SLPA - Parakrama Dissanayake and Chief Executive Officer, SAGT - John Buckley in the presence of a distinguished gathering on board the vessel, last Sunday.

Among others present on the occasion were the Harbour Master SLPA - Capt N. Keppetipola, Director Operations SLPA - G. D. Perera,Gener Manager, Commercial and Marketing SAGT - Tissa Wickramasinghe, and past Chairman, Sri Lanka Shippers' Council - Rohan T. De. S.Wijeratne, Director, Asha and Pership Group - Niranjan Pereira, Executive Director Asha Agencies Ltd - Ralph Anandappa and General Manager Asha Agencies Ltd - Prasanna Karunatilake.
