Dialog GSM: Sri Lanka's premier cellular provider announced its selection as the Official Mobile Communications Provider to the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) for the year 2002.

As the official mobile communications provider to the BCCSL, Dialog GSM would provide a state of the art communication solutions to BCCSL and the national cricket team. Speaking on the new alliance with the BCCSL, Chief Executive of Dialog GSM, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, "Dialog is indeed privileged to have been selected by the BCCSL as mobile communications provider. Dialog GSM and the BCCSL have the key vision in common - that Sri Lanka should be second to none in the world, and that in fact Sri Lankan talent and capability is truly world class as proven on many an occasion by our cricket team. We are indeed proud to be associated with the BCCSL and are confident that we will live up to the confidence placed in us."

He went on to say that Dialog GSM was the first mobile phone operator to link mobile telephone consumers with the benefits of up to date sports information with the pioneering of Cricket Scores via SMS in 1999, "Today our consumers have many more technologies to benefit from," he said, "ranging from Interactive SMS Cricket Scores, a live WAP based service and more recently Dialog's pioneering GPRS service which supports a comprehensive sports portal."

Speaking on the reasons for selecting Dialog, Rienzie Martinesz, the Chairman of the Marketing and Sponsorship Committee of BCCSL has stressed the importance of having state of the art services such as International Roaming, WAP, SMS, GPRs for the development of sports and at the same time connect people around the world. Dialog's superiority in these services in addition to the GSM coverage and the availability of international coverage in all cricket-playing nations of the world had placed Dialog in a favourable position, he added.
