Puttalam polls violence: Two more suspects arrested

Two close associates of former Deputy Minister D.M. Dassanayake were arrested in Anamaduwa along with their deadly weapons yesterday by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).

Police believe that these recovered items were the remainder of the unused weapons which were released by the PA leaders for election campaign.

Police recovered six grenades, six shot guns, three tear gas bombs and many cartridges.

The SIU yesterday handed over the suspect known as Lancer Gamini and another suspect to the Anamaduwa Police. Puttlam witnessed the highest level of post-election violence. Therefore, the SIU headed by ASP I.M.Karunaratne had been formed to curb violence.
