"It is unlikely that the JVP will form an alliance with the PA to contest the election because it is disadvantageous for the JVP," he said. Meanwhile, JVP MP Vijitha Herath said that the JVP only worked with the PA after signing the Memorandum of Understanding to deliver results to the nation by forming a Probationary Government during the last Parliament. Local Government bodies are not like Parliament. The workload in local bodies is not like the workload at national level, he said. "We have not had any election pact with PA. The Central Committee will decide whether to contest with the PA within a few days," JVP MP Anura Dissanayake said. After the defeat at the last General Election, PA leaders are trying to avoid another defeat at the Local Government election by aligning with the JVP to defeat the UNF, political sources said. But some leaders in the PA are against an election pact with JVP as the JVP capitalised on the Probationary Government at the General Election. " "Forming a probationary Government badly affected the PA vote base at the last general election," a PA leader who did not want to be named said. |
