PC Minister, others remanded

The Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Southern Provincial Council M. K. Ranjith has been taken into custody in connection with alleged violence and murders caused during the election period.

Three others including a security personnel of the SPC Minister and two strong supporters of PA were taken into custody by a Special Police Team led by ASP Priyantha Jayakody.

The Police said that they were questioned at the Weerketiya Police station and later produced before Walasmulla Magistrate who remanded them.

Stolen by treasure hunters

It is reported that a treasure hidden in a rock belonging to the Ranagala Rajamaha Viharaya premises in Mungamuwa Dambadeniya had been robbed by treasure hunters recently.

According to a complain made by the Dayaka Sabha the Viharadhipathi and two other suspects had been arrested by Polgahawela police for questioning.

They had also informed the Department of Archaeology and officers of the department are conducting investigations in this connection with the help of the police.

Landmine diffused

Troops defused a landmine laid in Ampan about eight kilo meters North East of Kodikamam in Jaffna on Wednesday night, a press release issued by the Government Information Department said yesterday.

Twenty Kilo grams of high explosives were found in this landmine which had been laid some time back, the release added.

A Home Guard who was employed at a road block in Vavunativu, north of Valachchenai had deserted his point of duty on Wednesday around 10.30 in the morning.

The Home Guard had taken away his personal weapon along with four magazines with 120 rounds of T-56 ammunition when he disappeared.

Troops clearing mines had recovered 145 anti personnel mines from the general areas of Alaveddi and Periyavilan in the Jaffna peninsula during the week between January 11 and 18, the release added.

Appeal for mother of triplets

A birth of triplets is reported from Tissamaharama district hospital.

The mother of triplets is Jagodage Priyanka aged 23, is a resident of Kasingama, Tissamaharama.

Tissamaharama branch of Sampath Bank opened a savings account in order to provide relief to the mother of the triplets.

The Manager Sampath Bank requests donors, philanthropists and residents to donate towards this worthy cause.

Please help this infant

Imesh N. Wanigasooriya, a four month old infant who is suffering from severe heart disease - Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) has to undergo early heart surgery, according to Dr. Y.K.M. Lahie, Cardiac Surgeon.

The operation will cost his parents Rs. 275,000 which is way beyond their means. Imesh's father A.D. Wanigasooriya who is an Office Assistant is unable to find the required money. He makes an appeal for charitable assistance which will help save his child's life.

Contributions can be remitted to the account number 1-014408-6 of the Bank of Ceylon, Mirigama branch.

Help save her life

Mrs. H. A. Dottinona (56) of Sapugahawatta, Dodamgoda, Kalutara South is suffering from end stage renal disease and requires dialysis followed by kidney transplant to save her life according to Dr. C. A. Herath, Consultant Nephrologist Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital.

The estimated cost of dialysis and kidney transplant is in the region of Rs. 8 lakhs. She also needs a kidney in the 'A' positive or 'O' positive blood group to enable her to undergo this operation.

Dottinona who says that her family is unable to foot this bill requests philanthropists and well-wishers to help her cause by kindly remitting their financial contributions to her account number 0039-207-076507-5 at the People's Bank, Kalutara branch. Furthermore she requests a donor wishing to donate a kidney to contact her at the above address or on telephone numbers 034-81867, 034-29860 or 077-323167 urgently.

Need your help

Master A. N. K. Supun Dissanayake of No. 157, Dombavinna Watte (North), Heeralugedara, Kotadeniyawa is a heart patient who requires heart surgery.

According to the consultant, Cardia Thoracic surgeon of Sri Jayawardenepura General Hospital, the patient need heart surgery.

A fee is levied for the cost of dispossables and drugs by the hospital. The estimated cost of the item is Rs.115,000 which has be paid to the hospital on the date of admission.

A. D. Sunil, the father of the infant has no permanent employment and he is unable to raise the money.

He appeals to the public to assist him financially to save the child.
