by Ranil Wijayapala A Navy patrol craft in the sea off Negombo detected another two human smuggling trawlers with 100 illegal emigrants to Italy in the early hours of yesterday, a Navy spokesman told the Daily News yesterday. The Naval made this detection just one week after they detected 108 illegal immigrants in the sea off Negombo last Friday, the spokesman added. He said the Navy patrol detected one suspicious trawler around 3 am yesterday in which 50 people were present. The Naval troops detected the second boat heading towards the same direction three hours later around 6 am in the morning, the spokesman added. The spokesman said the Naval troops during their operation in the sea off Negombo had detected trawlers taking more than 300 illegal emigrants within the last three months. The two trawlers were due to be handed over to the Police last evening after completion of the preliminary inquiries, the spokesman added. |
