Joint action with private sector to accelerate development by Kegalle special correspondent The present government has to do a lot of development work in an accelerated form in order to arrest the depletion of government coppers and to generate more employment. We cannot wait for years to do this and immediately we must go into action, said the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Rukman Senanayake, Kegalle district MP, presiding over a meeting held at the "Elephant Bath Hotel" at Pinnawala last week-end. He said, that the wealth of the government has deteriorated to an alarming extent. Therefore, the government is taking immediate action to get the co-operation of the private sector in all development work, too, so that a joint program both government sector and private sector together would produce quick results in solving the acute problems confronted today. This is being done for the welfare of everybody. He said, that he will have discussions with all Departmental officers of the government sector and the private sector to obtain their views in this regard. To fulfil our expectations with good results we need the co-operation of all. He said that he will also consult the views of all Members of Parliament in Kegalle district before the submission of his plans for implementation. Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Member Sarath Bandara said, that a time has come to forget about the past and of taking vengeance and to forget and forsake of all hatred, for the good and welfare of the country and nation as a whole. Messrs. Senarath Bandara, Luxman Hulugalle, Sanjin Samarasinghe and S. Botata also spoke.
