Seminar on developing SMI sector The Colombo District Association of SMI Foundation will organise a national seminar on Strengthening local economy by developing Small and Medium Industrial (SMI) Sector. It will be held on January 19 from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Torrington Square, Colombo 7. Minister of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion, Prof. G. L. Peiris is expected to deliver the key note address. Minister of Rural Economy and Deputy Minister of Finance Bandula Gunawardena and Minister of Industries, Rohitha Bogollagama are also expected to address the seminar. The purpose of the seminar is to identify the problems faced by the local industrialists and emphasise on the necessity of formulating a well laid out policy and an organised program of work for finding solutions to such problems. The deliberations at the seminar would be of immense importance to the policy makers and to those responsible for their implementation, following the proposals of the new government to rely heavily on the SMI sector to strengthen the economy and uplift the living standards of the rural people, the organisers said. Industrialists would be able to participate at the discussion. Industrialists from different districts, ministry and bank officials will be present. |
