NIIT Sri Lanka to hold Computer Literacy Day NIIT, a leading IT training and software major will hold a Sri Lanka Computer Literacy Day on February 4 to encourage youngsters to enter the world of computers. Sunimal Weerasooriya, Managing Director of MMBL CyberSkills (Pvt) Ltd said "There are many Sri Lankans, especially those in the smaller towns and villages and in the lower socic-economic sections of society who have been left out of the IT revolution sweeping this country. This has resulted in the creation of a 'Digital Divide' within our country, with a small proportion of 'Haves' who know computers and a huge section of 'Have-nots' who are not equipped with even basis computer literacy skills. This is an area of concern for all of us who believe in making Sri Lanka computer literate in order to face the challenges of the future, he said. Computers and Internet have the power to radically transform lives by opening up new avenues of knowledge, information, work, entertainment and communication. They provide the tools to every individual to radically improve the quality of life. Giving each and every Sri Lankan itches to this power is critical for the development and growth of Sri Lanka itself. As the Corporate with the mission of bringing people and computers together, it is NIIT's mandate to help bridge this Digital Divide. It also gives NIIT the opportunity to position as a Corporate that is truly taking IT to the masses. |
