Wijayasiri in Kandy Central Province Development Minister Tisaa Attanayake stressed at the Kandy District Coordinating Committee that the District Coordinating Committee should be transformed into a body of making policy decisions with the objective of making the district development activities more affective and efficient. Minister Attanayake made those observations at the recent meeting of the Kandy District Coordinating Committee held at the Kandy District Secretariat Auditorium. It was the first meeting of the DCC for 2002. Chief Secretary K.B. Wijekoon, District Secretary Sumana Bandara Baddewela Ministry Secretary, Palith Alkaduwa and MPs and officials of the district participated. He added that what was expected of DCCc was to limit its meetings only to taking policy decisions rather than wasting time by going into details of various development projects and proposals. He pointed out that decisions arrived at Divisional Coordinating Committees could be discussed further and final decisions could be arrived at joint meetings of Divisional Committees. The final decisions could only be taken at district level meetings. Development work could be expedited that way. "The people have elected us into power with new hopes. So, the politicians and officials should join hands in fulfilling these aims. We are going through a very difficult period. Especially in the economic development process, access and opportunities are very remote. "There are more difficulties and hardships. We all should unite and dedicate to getting these objectives fulfilled and pass the benefits to the people at the maximum level. There is no purpose in giving mere excuses to the people. Their expectations will always be to see that their needs are met. Under these circumstances, we all must unite and work for the henefit of the people shedding political views and differences" added Minister Attanayake. |
