From Ranga Kalansooriya in Nepal Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando yesterday visited Lumbini and Kapilavasthupura and inspected development work conducted by the Sri Lankan government. He inspected the construction of the Buddhist Monastery in Lumbini and asked the officials to complete work at least within six months. Construction commenced two years back at a cost of Rs 80 million, but was delayed due to various reasons. He said he would draw the attention of Buddhasasana Minister W.J.M. Lokubandara to expedite the construction work. In Kapilavasthupura, he told the Chief District Officer Mohan Sapkota that he would attempt to get UNESCO funding for an archaeological excavation project. "We are happy to receive the new Foreign Minister here in this holy land and wish him good luck in his new office. He is a man with a clean reputation and we hope he will help us to bring these places of worship to a better standard," said Ven. Ginnaliye Pannaranama Thera, welcoming the Minister. Rupandehi (Siddharthanagar) Chief District Officer Sthaneswar Devkota also accompanied the Minister. |
