A major fire which developed in the master control room of the MTV television station at Depanama Pannipitiya resulted in the electronic media transmissions of the Maharaja Organisation being knocked off the air from last morning. Assistant News Director of MTV Asoka Dias told the Daily News that the entire master control room has been badly damaged from the fire but he failed to give details as to how the fire had originated. Dias said that no casualties were reported from the incident and fire department officials had sent at least six fire brigades to extinguish the fire. All the electronic media transmissions of the Maharaja Organisation which comprises of MTV, Sirasa TV, Shakthi TV, Sirasa FM, and Yes FM went off the air at around 11.30 a.m. yesterday as a result of the fire. Asoka Dias said that they were still assessing the damage and that the fire was brought under control. |
