by Sarath Malalasekera The Kosgoda Police on Saturday night arrested 58 persons who were trying to illegally leave the country on three fishing trawlers for Italy. Inspector S. Umagiliya, OIC Kosgoda Police said that they seized the three vessels near the Kosgoda beach. According to investigations, each person had paid a sum of Rs. 100,000 to the local organisers. The local organisers have demanded Rs. 300,000 for the journay. Most of the suspects who were arrested were Tamils, investigators said. Southern Range DIG D. W. Prathapasinghe is directing investigations conducted by Embilipitiya Senior SP S. M. Ranasinghe and SP Nimal Jayasekera. SI Gunasiri, Sergeants Wickremasinghe, Kanangara, PC Gunadasa, Wimalasiri and RPC Samarasinghe of the Kosgoda Police are assisting in the investigation. |
