The Executive Committee of the United National Party which met yesterday at Sirikotha decided to continue party activities in a more productive way despite the UNP's return to power.

It has been pointed out that those holding responsibilities of the Government should also be responsible for the party. They should be committed to keep the promises given to the public before the election and to implement these policies.

The Executive Committed also decided to nominate a group of MPs to implement the activities of the party. They also decided to address members using their party designations for party activities, even if they hold ministerial portfolios in the Government.

Nomination boards will also be appointed to select candidates for the forthcoming Local Government elections.

Arrangements will also be made to increase the representation of women among candidates contesting the election after holding discussions with the Lakvanitha Organisation of the party. This will be in keeping with the policy statement presented in the UNP manifesto to increase women representation in politics.

The Executive Committee also decided to propose the name of Malik Samarawickrema for the post of party Chairman at the next party convention to fill the vacancy created by Charitha Ratwatte who was appointed as Secretary to the Finance Ministry.
