Death of party activist: JVP accuses UNP supporter

JVP Media Unit issuing a statement has charged H. T. Pushpakumara a close supporter of one of UNP's prominent politicians in the Kaduwela electorate for having killed one of the JVP activists in the same area Tharanga Roshan Jayathileke on December 30 around 10.30 p.m.

JVP Media release states that late Tharanga Jayathileke who was 25 at the time of his death had worked enormously towards the success of his party at the December general election.

He had apparently acted as the JVP agent at the polling booth at the Kandahena Maha Vidyalaya Dedigamuwa at the recently concluded polls.

JVP Media Unit further points out that their late party activist Jayathileke had received numerous death threats from the UNP supporter Pushpakumara and his goons in the run up to the election, and on the day of the incident the accused had invited the deceased to go on a visit with him and on coming out of his house had been assaulted with wooden poles to his head.

JVP said the man accused with committing the murder has been arrested by the Nawagamuwa Police and that further investigations are continuing.
