Rally round JVP to defeat UNF politics

JVP National List MP Anura Dissanayake issuing a press statement has called on the general public to rally round the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna with the aim of defeating the Jekyll and Hyde politics of the United National Front government.

He says the decision taken by the UNF government to extend the 40% surcharge on all import duty from December 31 2001 to March 31 2002 is a clear example to these hilarious tactics of the new Ranil Wickremesinghe administration.

JVP MP Anura Dissanayake points out that when the previous People's Alliance government asked for a Rs. 253 million loan from the International Monetary Fund one of the conditions laid down by the IMF to the PA was that as a temporary measure to overcome the country's economic woes to impose the 40% surcharge on all import duty.

He said the then PA government had turned a blind eye to the cry of the people at the time and had acceded to the conditions of the IMF and the very same UNP which was then in the opposition and which had shed crocodile tears against the escalating economic burden on the people is now more or less continuing from where the PA had left off.

The people in the country which has been suffering immensely from numerous economic burdens hitherto have been driven from the frying pan to the fire with the ever increasing cost of living.

JVP MP Dissanayake explains that the UNF government is continuing with the same old fashioned policies of the PA government with the people having to put up with the resultant consequences no matter how serious they may be.

Anura Dissanayake lastly calls on the people to rise as one unit and join forces with the JVP to defeat the Jekyll and Hyde style politics now being preached and practised by the UNF.
