Anti-harassment Committee report soon

The report of the Anti-harassment Committee appointed by the Government to look into the hardships and grievances of the Tamil people is expected within the next two weeks.

This national level committee which comprises several Cabinet Ministers is strengthened by a regional mechanism. "Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested this Committee to present its report within a period of two weeks," Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris told yesterday's Cabinet briefing.

A committee appointed to examine the changes that can be made to the restrictions imposed on fishing in the North will have to submit its report within a month.

This committee will examine relief for fishermen in the North to uplift the living standards of fishing folk subject to security considerations.
