Nothing done for progress of youth by Maharagama special correspondent "The unplanned programs of the former regime had done nothing for the progress of the youth. They were deceived by means of fruitless projects. As the youth is the back-bone of the country and the nation, it is the prime duty of the National Youth Services Council to look-after, protect them and to give their share of the society", said Sunil Jayaweera assuming duties as the new Chairman and the Director General of Youth Affairs at the National Youth Services Council, Maharagama. Mr. Jayaweera said 40 percent of the population are youths. Their share is the society must be given to them. When the present Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was the Minister of Youth Affairs and Charita Ratwatte was the Chairman of the National Youth Services Council it was the golden era of the NYSC. Nothing fruitful has been added to their service during last seven years. Under the government's 100 days development program, forming of youth regiment, and several other projects are proposed to be done by the NYSC. The director (Administration) M.B. Ratnasiri delivered the welcome speech. The director, deputy directors, and assistant director of the council were also present. |
