Minister ratifies Interim Comm. Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Johnston Fernando officially ratified the new Interim Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka yesterday. As exclusively reported in yesterday's 'Daily News', the new seven-member committee comprises Vijaya Malalasekera (Chairman), Michael Tissera (Vice Chairman), Kushil Gunasekera (Secretary), Sidath Wettimuny, Mani Jayasinghe, Nalin Ladduwahetti and Ariya Kannangara. The only member missing from the previous committee of six is former Sri Lanka Test paceman Asantha de Mel. As reported in these columns yesterday, the two new faces in the new BCCSL Interim Committee are former Thomian athlete and leading lawyer Nalin Ladduwahetti and former Athletic Association President and Trico chief Ariya Kannangara. Fresh elections to the BCCSL in the near future are highly unlikely and the new Interim committee is expected to run the country's richest sporting body probably for another year. (D.W.) |
