I have instructed all ranks to maintain law and order - IGP by Sarath Malalasekera It is our duty to act with understanding and firmness for the curtailment of crime, make this country safer and bring offenders to book, Inspector General of Police Lucky Kodituwakku said in his New Year message to his men yesterday. "I have instructed all ranks to do their best to maintain law and order in the country and to bring credit to the noble profession," IGP Kodituwakku said. It is our prime duty to control the increasing crime. We need assistance of the public especially where information is concerned and I greatly appreciate the assistance given to us already, the IGP said. The IGP directed all the Officers-in charge of police stations that they should deploy maximum strength to meet all necessities arising from this occasion. It is of paramount importance that all supervisory officers at District level and Stations personally brief and supervise the rank and file, both in their responsibilities and in their carrying out of the tasks at ground level. The IGP told his men that special precautions should be taken at locations where the public were likely to congregate in celebrating the dawn of the New Year. In such places there should be adequate personnel both in uniform and in mufti. Whenever they observe situations which warrant their intervention, Police should act before complaints are made. IGP wished his men, their families and the citizens of the country a very happy and prosperous New Year 2002. |
