Save Sri Pada from pollution

Sri Pada will be safeguarded from environmental pollution during the annual pilgrimage to the sacred peak. The Sri Pada season that commenced on Unduwap poya following Pirith ceremony at Saman Devala will end by Vesak Poya, Sripadasthanadhipathi Handapangoda Wimala Thera said.

Custodian of Sri Pada Ven Wimala Thera appealed to the pilgrims expected to climb Sri Pada to refrain from leaving discarded polythene bags and bottles on the way to the peak and nearby waterways during their trek to Sri Pada.

Meanwhile Ministry of Housing and Public Utilities with the help of the Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha has taken steps to provide drinking water and other sanitary facilities for the visitors.Vendors have also been warned by the authorities to keep the area clean.A fleet of garbage disposal trucks have been deployed for this purpose,a Ministry spokesman said.
