A World Bank team will visit certain districts in the North East Province and also Anuradhapura district on a supervision mission of the North East Irrigated Agricultural Project (NEIAP) which is being financed by the World Bank. Field programs have been arranged from 3rd to 5th and 14th to 20th January 2002. Project components include the rehabilitation of 400 minor tanks, rehabilitation of 1200 kilometers of rural roads, construction of 300 drinking water wells and other small scale reconstruction activities. All eight districts in the North East Province and in addition the districts of Anuradhapura, Moneragala, Polonnaruwa and Puttalam will also be covered by NEIAP. The team will visit project districts and meet the beneficiaries of selected focal villages and assess the project implementation and initial outcomes and impacts on the ground through discussions with them in the field. The team will also meet with the key projects stakeholders including Government Agents and partnering non government organisations comprising the UNHCR and ICRC. In Colombo the mission will have discussions with the Director General of the External Resources Department, Governor of the North East Province, Secretaries to the Ministry of Provincial Councils, Ministry of Defence and World Bank's Country Director. The World Bank team will visit Mahamar and Sunkankuli focal villages in the Kinniya DS division Trincomalee district, Pattakadu and Nedunkaraichenai focal villages in the Vavuniya district, Chundikuli and Periyamurippu focal villages in the Mannar district, Sarvodayapura and Sangamankadiya focal villages in the Ampara district, Paddipalai and Periyakalaipottamadu in the Batticoloa district, Dharshanapura and Mahasiyambalangaswewa focal villages in the Anuradhapura district, Thethavadi and Periyakaddaikadu focal villages in the Mannar district, Paddaikadu and Pullichalkulan in the Vavuniya district. Workshop with key project stakeholders will be held at Anuradhapura on the last day. |
