S.M. Jiffry Abdeen - Kandy Sports Correspondent
The world famous rugby official Jonathan Kaplan will be up in the
hills this week to conduct two workshops for rugby coaches and referees
and possibly to officiate in the first leg of the 68th Bradby Shield
encounter between Trinity College and Royal College which will be played
at Pallekele on June 1 (Saturday). It must be stated it will be a great
honour to have Jonathan Kaplan on these assignments which will be of
immense benefit to the participants.
For the record it must be recalled that Jonathan Kaplan officiated in
the previous World Cup finals played in England and it will be a great
honour for rugby in Sri Lanka for a local school match which is also a
tournament game to be refereed by him.
Jonathan Kaplan – a highly respected rugby official will conduct
Rugby Education Workshop for coaches and players at Kandy Sports Club's
Nittawela Stadium on Friday, May 31 at 4 p.m.
A large number of Rugby coaches and player are expected to follow
this programme.
On Saturday, June 1stat 10 a.m. Jonathan Kaplan will conduct an
Education Workshop for Rugby Referees in the Central Province at the
Pallekele Stadium.
This is expected to be both viva and practical and the local referees
will greatly benefit from this programme.
The Bradby Clash between Royal College and Trinity College is a
prestigious clash and at rugby it has no parallels and for that match to
be officiated by an official who had officiated at the highest level of
rugby the Rugby World Cup finals will add more prestige and glamour. |
