presenting the 22nd volume of Neethiya to Attorney General,
President's Counsel Palith Fernando |
The 22nd volume of the Neethiya, the only law journal in Sinhala to
be published uninterrupted for the last 22 years was presented to
Attorney General, President's Counsel Palith Fernando recently at the
Attorney General's Chambers by the Staff of the Neethiya magazine.
Neethiya commenced in 1990 as a newsletter. It was launched by
presenting to then Chief Justice Parinda Ranasinghe and thereafter
upgraded to a fully-fledged law journal.
Due to the lack of legal publications in Sinhala, it has always been
in great demand among the legal community including judges,
practitioners, academics, law students, law enforcement officers as well
as others interested in law.
Realizing its value, successive Chief Justices have obtained
sponsorships for copies to be distributed among the members of the
judiciary free of charge.
The 22nd volume too is enriched with articles on varied topics
written by distinguished specialists, well prepared notes on recent
decisions of the Superior Courts on a broad spectrum of subjects and
latest statutes, legal news, tables of cases and other contents.
Its expenses have since inception, been met solely by its patron,
President's Counsel Upali A Gooneratne, a well known criminal
practitioner, law lecturer and an international and local Bar leader.
