Mahasena heading for North

The Cyclonic Storm Mahasena in the South-east Bay of Bengal was centered about 700km to the East of Mullaitivu as at yesterday noon, the Meteorology Department said. It added the storm will intensify further and most likely move in the North-westward direction.

As such the coastal areas extending from Jaffna to Hambantota via Batticaloa will experience strong winds, rough conditions and intermittent rain. Under the influence of the system fairly strong South-westerly winds can be expected over Sri Lanka and the neighbourhood, it forecasts.

It requested the Navy and fisher folk not venture into the seas on the East coast.

It further said there will be intermittent showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and Galle and Matara districts today.

Showers or thundershowers can be expected in the Northern and Eastern parts of the country during next few days.
