Ecowave opens at Arugam Bay

Ecowave (Gte) Ltd, a newborn social enterprise has opened its Ecowave
Outlet in Arugam Bay with the dawn of the season currently . It was
ceremonially declared opened by the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy
to Sri Lank Fabrizio Pio Arpeaa, recently.
Ecowave is constructed with natural local materials, clay and ching
grass and conveniently located on the main road of Arugam Bay and
supported by ICEI/Overseas.
The Arugam Bay Ecowave Outlet is a multi-purpose retail shop with
different aims to provide higher end market opportunities for the
produce of rural communities, and a service provider to the local
farmers. To link the tourists and the tourism industry with the local
communities. To sell their products to the tourists, that are ethically
produced, eco-friendly and embody the authentic Sri Lankan traditions,
that could create permanent employments and income generation
activities.

Following is the Ecowave’s motto, “Doing Good Doing Green”, the
Arugam Bay Ecowave Outlet promotes sustainable production and
consumption patterns among producers and consumers through marketing of
green products and services and community based tourism.
Organic/Eco friendly vegetable, fruits, tea , spices, herbs , bee
honey, kithul by products, cashew, traditional (heirloom rice) are some
of the products that could be enjoyed by tourists and even by locals
with the increasing concern for chemical free healthy products.
The ceremonial opening of the Ecowave Outlet was presided over by
Chief Executive Officer, Ecowave I.L.M. Najeeb, the Chairperson of
EcoWave Ms. Windhya Liyanarachi, Country Representative of ICEI/OVERSEAS,
Roberto Cerinna, Desk Officer, President of the Chamber of Tourism and
Industry Pottuvil Predeshya Saba Chairman M.S. Waseeth, Regional
Director Central Environmental Authority MAC Najeeb and several others
invitees from the Tourist Community were also present together with a
large number of local tourists as well. |
