Lumbini - Al Husseinie final on Sunday

It will be a tough battle between Lumbini College, Colombo and Hameed Al Husseinie College, Colombo in the final of the All Island Inter School Invitation Football Tournament 2013 which will be worked off at the Sugathadasa Stadium on February 10 at 5.15pm.

The third place match between St Benedicts's College, Kotahena and Hindu College, Bambalapitiya will take place at 1.30 pm. The final of the veterans’ between Colombo Veterans and Java Lane Veterans will be worked off at 4pm at the same venue.

Lumbini College qualified for the final when they beat St Benedict's College after a tight battle by 3-2 on February 2 in the first semi final. Isuru Prarthana, K Shiyon and Nadesh Dilshan scored goals for the winners. Madushan Randika and Disal Senadi netted for St Benedict's College.

On the same day in the second semi final strong Hameed Al Husseinie College defeated Hindu College by 5-0 . N C M Rahman with a splendid effort scored four goals while M Arshan booted one.

The battle between the veterans’ which in earlier tournaments had been at exhibition level is played as a competition this year due to strong enthusiasm of the participating teams. Colombo Veterans who outplayed Maligawatte Veterans by 2-0 in the first semi final.

Java Lane Veterans defeated Slave Island Veterans in a penalty shoot out by 3-0 in the other semi final.

The tournament held for the sixth year has been organized by the Group of 80s of Hameed Al Husseinie College.

This year the number of awards presented to the teams and players have increased significantly to promote their enthusiasm in Football.

Trophies will be awarded for the following achievements.Best Goal Keeper of the tournament -Golden Glove, Highest Goal Scorer of the tournament -Fantastic Foot, Most valuable player of the tournament . The organizers will also award students who have represented the Sri Lanka School Football Team and the National Team for the Year 2012.

Apart from that 2 mountain bicycles will be offered to spectators after a draw on the entrance tickets the opening and the final day.

A special award, the Most Popular Player of the Year will be awarded to the final Winner of a continuous poll carried out through match tickets and online poling through official Website of the sponsor Power Horn with the sponsorship of an esteemed establishment.

The nominees for this category will be those who have been nominated by each participating school.

Participating players’ name and other details are featured in the respective Website for the people to vote for their choice. The player who gets the most number of preferential vote along with the final voting at the final match (coupon issued with match ticket) will be awarded The Most Popular Player of the Year – 2013”.

He will be awarded with a return air ticket to Malaysia with a travel voucher for the expenses.
