Over 187,000 kgs of sugar mixed with sand seized in Kolonnawa

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) seized 187,500 kilos of imported brown sugar mixed with sand valued at Rs 10 million at a store in Kittampahuwa, Wellampitiya yesterday. The adulterated sugar had been imported from Brazil, CAA sources said.

The raid was carried out following complaints that sand was found in sweets sold in and around Badulla district, CAA Special Investigation Unit OIC Pradeep Kalutaraarachchi said. The businessman will be produced before the Maligakanda magistrate.
