National Youth Sports Festival from today

The 24th National Youth Sports Festival organized by the National Youth Services Council and Sri Lanka Youth Federation will be held from November 22 to 25 with the participation of 3000 sports personnel at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

The event has been organized under two event categories, under-20 and over-20. A new car will be awarded to the first athlete who erases an existing Sri Lanka record in the upcoming event, the organizers said. Four motorbikes are also on offer for the best male and female athletes in the two age categories.

Both men’s and women’s track and field events will be held on November 23 to 25 while the Football finals will be held at 4pm on November 25.

On Thursday, the opening ceremony will be held under the patronage of Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage as the chief guest. The Olympic torch will be carried by best athletes last year, D A MM Dissanayake, S R J Pabasara Senanayake, W K L A Nimali and L P S Nilanga.

The closing ceremony will be held on 25 at 3pm with Hambantota District MP Namal Rajapaksa being the chief guest.
