Ranaviri Real Star Mission 3 begins

The first round of Ranaviru Real Star Mission 3 began on Rupavahini on Saturday, November 03, at 9.00 pm and the final is expected to be held in June, next year.

Ranaviru Real Star Mission 3 would feature four mega public musical shows of which the curtain raiser was on November 3 at Vavuniya. The second show would be on November 10 at Kurunegala and the third will be on November 17 at Ambilipitiya.

The final show will be on November 24 at Katunayaka. All four mega musical shows will be aired live on Sri Lanka Rupavahini, Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) Director General Lakshman Hulugalle said at a news briefing held at the Centre.

Ranaviru Real Star reality show has opened the stage to expose and bring to light the latent aesthetic talents of our war heroes and let them be reborn as glittering starts.

He told the media that Ranaviru Real Star Mission 1 was developed and organized by the Ministry of Defense and Urban Development on a concept of Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa with the support of Dialog Axiata PLC.

He said that the Ranaviru Real Star, one of the most watched reality shows in the country highlighting the hidden talents of Sri Lankan armed forces personnel would once more commence operations with Mission 3.

He added that Mission 1 was a record-breaker and the Mission 2 had raised the bar even further by providing opportunities for them to perform at international events and said that the Mission 3 promises even more.

He disclosed to the media the fact that the highly successful Ranaviru Real Star Mission 2 had received well over four million SMS’s at the grand-finale, being the highest number ever for any reality show final.

This time too the preliminary rounds would be recorded live and telecast on Sri Lanka Rupavahini with the backdrop for the episodes being locations with a military association, while the grand finale would be aired live on the same channel, he said.

The Defense Secretary had expressed his gratitude to the gesture of Dialog Axiata in sponsoring this event and for the national television channel Rupavahini for stepping in as the official media partner, he said.

Over the past two years Ranaviru Real Star has established itself as one of the most popular reality shows in Sri Lanka according to television ratings carried out by LMRB.

“Partnering with Ranaviru Real Star for the third year is an honour and privilege for Dialog,” Group Chief Marketing Officer at Dialog Axiata Amali Nanayakkara said.

“The realization of hidden talents of our heroes from the forces is a worthy cause and partnering with this event has been very satisfying for us as a top Sri Lankan corporate entity”.

Mission 3 has shortlisted 7,500 applications for round 1. By the end of the fourth round the number of participants would be around 750, and that number would further be reduced to 36 on the fifth round, just ahead of the commencement of the knockout stage.

The panel of judges would be comprised of eminent personalities involved in the music industry in Sri Lanka, will have a direct say in 60 percent of the outcome, the rest of the outcome will be decided by the public via SMS.

Previous winners of Ranaviru Real Star have been given the opportunity to perform their previously unknown aesthetic talents on the international stage.

The winner of Ranaviru Real Star: Mission 3 would be the proud recipient of a house worth Rs. 17 million, while the runner up would receive a car and cash award of Rs. 1 million. The third place winner would receive a cash price of Rs. one million, with fourth and fifth placements walking away with Rs. 500,000 each.

Only servicemen and servicewomen who have completed three years of active service in the tri-armed forces are eligible to enter the Mission 3.

The winner of Ranaviru Real Star: Mission 2, Ayomi Perera of the Sri Lanka Army was the recipient of a house worth Rs. 17 million, while the runner-up received a brand new car and a cash prize of Rs. 1Million. The third place winner received a cash price of Rs 2 million, with fourth and fifth placements walking away with Rs. 500,000 each.

In addition sixth to 10th places received a cash prize of Rs. 250,000 each along with an LED TV and a DTV (Dialog Television) connection.
