Ridma Dissanayake
Engineer Dr. A. N. S. Kulasinghe is a great example to engineers, who
delay construction projects with ulterior motives, Construction,
Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal
Weerawansa said.
The minister was addressing the 93rd commemoration ceremony of the
late Engineer Dr.A.N.S Kulasinghe held at the Wimalasurendra Auditorium
of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), recently.
"Dr. Kulasinghe is one of the greatest engineers produced by Sri
Lanka," the minister said.
"He was a strong advocate of the use of indigenous human resources
for the country's development and firmly believed that Sri Lankan
engineers are second to none, in their talents and capabilities to
undertake projects of any complexity.
"He himself had trail blazed the use of many new technologies in the
many projects he has to his credit. The 'Kulasinghe - CPC' System of
Prestressing concrete, System of large diameter concrete piling
developed in 1951 for the construction of port structures, including, a
novel method of floating out and sinking the cylinders are among them,"
Minister Weerawansa added.
Dr. Kulasinghe loved Sri Lanka and gave all the credit to his
achievements to his Motherland. He never thought about what he earned.
"He is the person who introduced the most suitable method and
technology for Sri Lanka's engineering field. Dr. Kulasinghe was a very
honest person who used the country's resources sparingly," the Minister
said.
The minister distributed the Dr. Kulasinghe scholarships to 66
students who passed the Grade Five Scholarship examination-2012 at the
ceremony. He also distributed gifts and prizes to the students of the
Udamwita Kulasinghe Vidyalaya as well.
