Murder suspect arrested

Sapugaskanda Police arrested a suspect in connection with the alleged murder of a mother of six, whose body was found in a house in Batalanda with her hands and legs tied.

The suspect is a 48 year old drug addict staying at a rented house near the victimís house.

Police recovered a television set, electrical items and other household goods robbed from the house which had been sold to persons in the Maharagama area. The 67 year old mother of six had been living alone in the house when the suspect is alleged to have committed the murder after entering the house from a window on October 7 night.

He had committed the murder by strangling her with a bed sheet.

The suspect was to be produced before the Mahara Magistrate.

Investigations are continuing directed by OIC Crimes Sapugaskanda Police, Inspector J.A. Thusitha Jayakody.
