Defending schools rugby league champions Royal College will not find
it easy when they take on new comers to the top division rugby Vidyartha
College in a schools under 19 'A' Division rugby tournament match to be
played at Nittawala tomorrow at 4.30 p.m.
Last week, Royal College scored a comprehensive 45-5 win over D. S.
Senananayake College while Vidyartha College promoted from the bowler
division this year came up with a top class performance to held the
strong Isipathana College to a 19 all draw, sending out warning signals
to other schools that they are a team to watch. Vidyartha College will
have the home advantage while the Royalists will have to watch out to
stop their opponents from spring a surprise.
Trinity College will take on their traditional rivals St. Anthony's
College in an interesting match to be played at Nittawala today.
Last week Trinity College squeezed through to a 25-19 win over
science college unable to penetrate the defence put up by the science
college the lions had to go for the option of kicking the penalties
which came their way and this paid dividends and brought them victory.
The Antonious could not be happy about their performance against
Kingswood College last week which they lost 15-30 after drawing first
blood. Their defence left much to be desired and in fact was much
suspect. These was one instance of them going for a big deep inside
their opponents territory but they allowed on interception to take place
and the Kingswoodians carried the ball a goal 80 metres to score near
the posts which brought them 7 points and sealed victory.
If not for this lapse, this would have been a close game.
In any case a Trinity Antonian clash in any sports is a closely
contested affair and today's match will be no exception. |
