War Heroes� commemoration

National War Heroes� Memorial ceremony will be held at the War
Heroes� statue, Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte on May 19 at 4.30 pm under
President Mahinda Rajapaksa�s patronage, Ranaviru Seva Adikariya
chairperson Padma Wettewe said.
The war heroes memorial ceremony is organised annually by the
Ranaviru Seva Adikariya under the theme Nation�s Salutation to
Motherland�s War Heroes. In line with this ceremony, a month�s period
from April 30 to May 30 has been named the war heroes memorial period.
This will commence with the pinning of the Ranaviru flag on President
Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees on April 30.
During this period fund raising campaigns, welfare activities etc
will be carried out with the participation of the security forces
personnel and public. All income will be allocated solely for the
welfare of war heroes and their family members. After pinning the
Ranaviru flag on the President, he will declare the Ranaviru memorial
period. It has been arranged to sell Ranaviru flags throughout the
country to raise funds.
Provincial level war heroes� commemoration ceremonies will also be
held in all nine provinces. Addressing the media, Media Centre for
National Security Director General Lakshman Hulugalle said: �Everyone is
duty bound to commemorate our brave war heroes who sacrificed a lot for
the sovereignty of our motherland.� War heroes who had not possessed a
single square inch of land fought to eradicate terrorism from our
motherland.
War heroes gave their today for our better tomorrow, Wettewe said.
Therefore, it is our duty to contribute to the commemoration of war
heroes while making a contribution to the fund raising campaigns. In
line with budget proposals, the Economic Development Ministry has
allocated Rs 400 million to provide soft loan facilities for war heroes�
families to commence self employment, Chairperson Wettewa added.
