Former World Junior Tennis Champion visits Sri Lanka
The former World Junior Tennis Champion from Romania, Ana Bogdan who
was ranked number two in the world as a junior was in Sri Lanka last
week. She visited the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) as a part of
her visit to impart her knowledge as well as to interact with the tennis
players, specially the female tennis players from the country.

Ana who commenced her tennis carrier at the age of eight with her dad
who is presently her coach also had her highest Junior Ranking of No two
in 2009 and is now ranked number 463 in women's singles in the world.
She is working hard and hops to climb into the top 250 by the end of
2012. She has won 35 matches since turning professional in 2009. She is
also an Ambassador for Child Action Lanka (CAL) and involved in charity
work to support vulnerable, isolated and oppressed children.
She visited SLTA to support its efforts to popularize the game in the
country as well as to do her charity work.
She has conducted a clinic for the Sri Lanka Fed Cup team which
recently participated in the Fed Cup after a lapse of nearly five years
which was held in Shenzhen, China.
She has also taken part in an exhibition doubles match with the
players of the Sri Lanka Fed Cup team during her visit to the SLTA.
Leading female players as well as some outstation players took part
in this programme.
The clinic will help our players as this is the first time that such
a former high ranking junior player has been seen in action at the SLTA
courts. The Sri Lankan female players benefited immensely from her
experiences and by seeing her play at the courts.
The programme was organized under the patronage of the SLTA President
Maxwell de Silva.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for the local tennis fraternity,
specially the female players to see such a player in action in Sri
Lanka. I hope that our players would have taken advantage by
participating in the programme," said Maxwell De Silva. |
