Binura (103) puts DSS on top

D.S.Senanayake College were in a commanding position at the end of the first day's play in the sixth Battle of the Golds against Mahanama College which began at SSC Grounds yesterday.

Though Mahanama won the toss, they decided to field first . D.S.Senanayake, taking the maximum out of the situation, piled up a massive total of 276 for eight in 82 overs with the help of the centurion Binura Fernando(103) including 16 hits to the ropes well supported by Harith Maduwantha(52) including six boundaries. Left arm leg spinner Janaka Dayananda was the most impressive of the Mahanama bowlers with four for 67 while Dayan Perera bagged two for 64. Mahanama bowlers seemed to be bit nervous with the scintillating batting of D.S. batsmen. Any how, they were able to bag eight wickets.Deciding to declare their first innings, D.S.Senanayake gave the chance to their opponents after 82 overs.

Mahanama College replying to their rivals were 29 runs for one at close of the day's play. Senura Welagedara was dismissed for seven runs while Dulanja Silva was not out on seven runs.Duleeka Brahmanage was the wicket-taker with one for 5.
