'Design Week' begins today

'Design Week 2012' organized by the Department of Integrated Design,
Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa have given their design
students the opportunity to showcase their talents through their exam
presentations, Today (30 March) from 9am onwards at the university's
Sumanadasa building.
An exhibition too will be held. It resolves to demonstrate the work
of fifteen students from the jewellery and fashion-textile sector. This
week has been important for the pupils with four other streams; graphic,
moving image, ceramic and furniture design having already been
presented.
The Comprehensive Design Project (CDP) began on 27 March with the
graphic design and moving image students. On 28 March, an intervention
was held on developing economies where related ideas were discussed and
presented and yesterday, the ceramic and furniture designs were
exhibited. The major exhibition will determine whether the students pass
the course and have the chance to pursue a career in the design
industry.
These upcoming designers will not only have exposure to local
entities but international as well. Visitors from the National Institute
of Design (NID), India and RMIT University, Australia will act as
examiners at the presentation. This will give the pupils a chance to
display their designs and interact with global groups; giving them a
taste of their chosen career path. |
