Upper Kotmale to add 150MWs

Power and Energy Ministry announced that the construction activities
of Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Plant are in the final stage and it has
already began adding 75MWs to the national grid during testing from
Wednesday.
Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Plant has two power generating machines
with 75MWs of capacity and the power plant will add 50MWs to the
national grid when completed.
According to ministry sources construction work on the the power
plant is to end by May and they are to add 150MWs to the national grid
by May and President Mahinda Rajapaksa will commission the first phase
of this project in May.
This power plant project was launched in 2006 with the financial
assistance of the Japanese government. The Japanese government has
provided a loan package of Japanese Yen 37,817 million for the project
and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had spent Rs. 8,548 million.
Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Plant will generate 1,000,409 electricity
units per year. |
