Couple injured in failed suicide attempt

A couple who tried to commit suicide by jumping before a train travelling to Nawalapitiya from Hatton was admitted to the Dikoya Base Hospital and later transferred to Nawalapitiya Hospital.

The incident had taken place between Hatton and Rosalla railway stations.

The man's legs had separated from his body and the woman was also seriously injured.

The woman in her statement said they attempted to commit suicide as their parents were against their marriage.

Meanwhile, the bodies of a couple were found hanging from a hotel room at Kosgama, Kuda Iduruwa area on Wednesday.

The couple had hung themselves using a bed sheet.

Inquiries revealed that the man aged 36 was a father of two and a resident of Kaduwela, Bomiriya while the woman aged 24 was the younger sister of the man's wife.

Investigations are continuing.
