Russian scholarships for Sri Lankan sports personnel

The recent visit of Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Vladimir P. Mikhaylov to the Sports Ministry marked a milestone in the efforts of developing Sports in Sri Lanka.

Ambassador Mikhaylov who made a courtesy call on Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has said that the government of Russia has expressed its interest to assist Sri Lanka's sports sector with Russian Sports Scholarships.

The Ambassador has pledged that the Russian government's support to strengthen amicable relationships between both countries maintained for many years and that the Russian government assures to strengthen the friendship with Sri Lanka, extending its fullest support in all necessary situations diplomatically.

Targeting of wining more medals at the upcoming SAARC Games 2013 scheduled to be held in New Delhi India, the Sports Ministry has decided to get down foreign coaches for 23 selected sports events. Accordingly, the Russian government looks forward to assist with two Russian coaches for Tennis and Squash while the Ambassador has express the Russian government's willingness to send voluntary coaches to popularize Beach Volleyball in Sri Lanka.
