St. Mary's confront Kegalu Vidyalaya in Kegalle's 'Battle of the Golds'

St. Mary's College will take on Kegalu Vidyalaya in their Kegalle's 34th 'Battle of the Golds' which will be played at the Public ground, Kegalle on Friday and Saturday with play commencing at 9.45 am on both days.

Kegalu Vidyalaya will be led by all-rounder Samadhi Dissanayake this year and is one of the top all-rounders in the side. He has scored 520 runs and taken 52 wickets with his left are spinners. In last year's big match he took 6 for 40 in Marians first innings.

His deputy is Vimantha Ratnayake who has scored 756 runs including top score for 109 against Wayamba Royal College. He is also a useful medium pacer.

Kegalu Vidyalaya have played 15 matches won 5 outright, lost 4 and drawn 6.

The most successful batsman in the side is left hander Shan Chathuranga who has score 1103 runs including two centuries - 110 not out Vs Ananda Sastralaya Vidyalaya, Kotte and 117 Vs Raddoluwa Sri Pragnando Vidyalaya. He has also held 25 catches.

Tharaka Somathillake too has performed well scoring 909 runs including two centuries and has also taken 58 wickets with his off spinners.

The other capable batsmen in the side are Thusith Prematillake (418 runs), Tharaka Somaratne (436 runs), Chathuranga Prematillake (220 runs), Chinthaka Bandara (165 runs), Lahiru Perera (224 runs), Krishan Lakdeep (310 runs), Bimshendra Ranaweera (510 runs) with Chinthana Bandara (40 wkts).

St. Mary's College will be led by fourth year player Jude Perera, an attractive batsman who has scored over 450 runs and has captured 54 wickets with his medium pacers. Wicket keeper batsman Sahan Opatha is the vice captain of the side. He has met with much success with the bat scoring 754 runs and has also 40 victims from behind the stumps.

They have played 15 matches won 6, lost 2 and drawn 7.

Left arm spinner Charika Karunaratne has been the most successful bowler with 96 wickets and looks set to capture his hundredth wicket in the big match.

Jude Perera will spearhead the attack with Chamike Devinda or Sajeewa Ranjith. Left are sipinner Chamika Karunaratne could be the destructive force with 96 wickets. He will be supported by off spinner Eraj Jayamanne (35 wkts), off spinner Mahesh Kumara (27 wkts), left arm spinner Dhanushka Sandaruwan (65 wkts) and left arm spinner Akalanka Lahiru (40 wkts).
