Nod only for 12 buses on Expressway

The National Transport Commission (NTC) will take legal action against owners of buses and other transport services which illegally transport commuters on the Southern Expressway, without obtaining route permits.

A NTC Spokesman said that only four private buses and seven Sri Lanka Transport Board buses are permitted to transport passengers on the Expressway.

The Commission has received several complaints regarding unauthorized operators who transport passengers, he said.

All buses wishing to ply on the Expressway have to obtain special permission from the NTC which has the responsibility of ensuring that approved buses for highway travel, comply with strict safety and mechanical standards minimising the possibility of accidents on the route, he added.

We will take stern action against buses that travel without a transport permit and engage in transport services on the Southern Expressway which may inconvenience the public.

He said that the IGP has been informed of this move.
